Rookie fast bowler Deepak Chahar became the 223rd player to play in an ODI for India when he made his debut in an Asia Cup Super Four match against Afghanistan in Dubai on Tuesday.
Hailing from Rajasthan, Chahar hogged the limelight when he took eight wickets for 10 runs against Hyderabad, skittling them for a paltry 21, in his debut Ranji season in 2010.
Chahar made his debut for India in the shortest format of the game against England at Bristol in July. He had a forgettable outing returning with figures of one for 43.
Chahar, earlier, rose to fame when he played under Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings in this year's Indian Premier League. His ability to swing the new ball, combined with a made him a regular player in the CSK side. He picked up 10 wickets in 12 games at an economy rate of 7.28 for CSK.
Chahar has picked up 40 wickets in his 37 T20 matches so far and has 34 List A wickets in 19 matches. The bowler was the leading wicket-taker for India A in its England tour with 16 wickets against his name.
With Dhoni leading India for the 200 time, Chahar unites with his CSK skipper in national colours in the 50-over format.
