The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided not to attend the BCCI Annual Awards function in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The MCA Jt. Hon. Secretary, Dr. P. V. Shetty texted a message “No’’ when asked if MCA officials will travel to Bangalore to receive the BCCI’s Best State Association award for its outstanding performance in 2015-16.

BCCI awards boycott: KSCA stands firm

MCA president Ashish Shelar confirmed that they will not be able to make it to awards function. “We are not boycotting the awards function, it’s not practical for us to attend,” he said.

The MCA was recognised as the best association for winning the Ranji Trophy, C.K. Nayudu Trophy and the Women’s Plate League Group and for finishing runner-up in the Cooch Behar Trophy, Vijay Merchant Trophy and the Women’s One-Day Elite Group.

It is reported that there is bitterness among a few members in the MCA Managaing Committee following the decision of the influential members in the MCA to side with the majority group in the BCCI who have decided to boycott the awards function because of restrictions placed by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), especially because it debarred the disqualified office bearers from attending the function.

“Mumbai’s players won the Ranji Trophy title for the 41st time; its teams also won other titles and reached the finals. We have to respect the hard work done by them. We are trying to convince the President Ashish Shelar,’’ said an active managing committee member on Tuesday afternoon.
