Cheteshwar Pujara smashed his third century for Sussex in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2022 against Middlesex on Tuesday.

Pujara’s sensational run has helped him to become the second batter to cross 500 runs this season in the English competition. The 34-year-old has three centuries and as many fifties in eight innings with a 100-plus average and strike rate. Sussex currently tops Group A.

Pujara reached the 100-run mark off just 75 balls with 14 fours and two sixes as Sussex finished with 400/5 in 50 overs at the County Ground in Hove. He was eventually dismissed for 132 (90) while opener Tom Alsop notched up 189.

Despite being known for his red-ball exploits, Pujara’s List-A batting average touched 57 during his superb knock. He became only the second batter ever to cross the mark after Australia’s Michael Bevan, for a minimum of 100 List-A innings played. They are followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam and India’s Virat Kohli at number three and four respectively.

Pujara is coming off a sensational red-ball stint in the County Championship Division Two, where he was the second-leading run-scorers with 1094 runs in 13 innings at an average of 109.40. His five centuries during the season included three double-hundreds, the last of them (231) coming on his County Championship captaincy debut against Middlesex in July.
