India’s captain M. S. Dhoni has voiced his complaint to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on what he felt was an avoidable delay in starting the second Twenty20 International between India and West Indies on August 28.
Play started 50 minutes late despite clear weather because there were technical problems in the satellite television production handled by broadcaster Sunset and Vine. The match was eventually washed out after two overs of India’s chase of 144 were completed.
According to Firstpost , Dhoni was outraged as the international contest was not delayed by agreeable reasons specified by the ICC. Those are rain, poor light or an unfit pitch or outfield. If the match had started on time, a result would have been provided, as a T20 match needs only five overs bowled in each innings for a result to be declared.
India was trailing 1-0 in the two-match series leading into this contest.
Dhoni, reportedly, had called for the match to start, but was repeatedly assured by broadcasters that the problem would be fixed on time.
"Dhoni's argument - based on ICC match guidelines - was that the match should start and not wait for the satellite signals. But the production house and, in turn, the host broadcaster, had a contrarian point of view," a BCCI member was quoted as saying by Firstpost .
"Dhoni's argument was simple. He wanted to know if it was within the rules to delay the match because of a satellite failure. He wanted to know what happens to those who are in the ground, and had bought expensive tickets for the match," he said.
