Mahendra Singh Dhoni equalled Kumar Sangakkara's record of 99 stumpings in ODIs when he flicked the bails off the stumps to dismiss Danushka Gunathilaka off a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery in the second of the five-match series between India and Sri Lanka.
Gunathilaka, in the first delivery of the 15th over, came down the pitch, aiming to drive the ball offside, but was beaten. The ball, which kept a tad low, bounced off Dhoni's gloves but he had enough time to catch it and take off the bails.
India restricted host Sri Lanka to 236 for eight with Jasprit Bumrah scalping four wickets and Chahal picking up two wickets.
Most stumpings in ODIs
Dhoni, with 38 stumpings, is fourth on the list of most stumpings in Tests, which is led by the late Bert Oldfield of Australia (52 stumpings).
