For the TML, that is going to last all of 11 days, starting March 11, and with each of the six franchises already having a high-profile mentor, it is intriguing to see if Vengsarkar will actually have a role to play in the league.

It is understood that Dilip Vengsarkar had made his displeasure known to the MCA authorities for having been ignored for the T20 Mumbai League.

Thanks to its clash with high-profile international and domestic matches, the inaugural edition of the T20 Mumbai League is set to be played without a majority of Mumbai cricket stars. However, when it comes to making up for it with the involvement of legends from yesteryears, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is leaving no stone unturned.

As if roping in Sachin Tendulkar as Ambassador and Sunil Gavaskar as League Commissioner wasn't enough, the MCA on Friday announced another India captain, Dilip Vengsarkar, as Chief Mentor of the league. The triumvirate will share the stage together on Saturday during the opening ceremony ahead of Sunday's tournament opener.

For a league that is going to last all of 11 days, starting March 11, and with each of the six franchises already having a high-profile mentor, it is intriguing to see if Vengsarkar will actually have a role to play in the league. In fact, it is understood that Vengsarkar had made his displeasure known to the MCA authorities for having been ignored, which resulted in a new position to be created for the former national chief selector.

On his part, however, the veteran of 116 Test matches was ecstatic. “It’s an honour to be a part of the inaugural edition of Mumbai’s very own T20 league. As the Chief Mentor, I aim to encourage and nurture young cricketers for a successful performance on home turf. This is a great platform for Mumbai cricketers to shine and make a mark, early on, in their careers, leading to a promising future,” he said in a statement.

The six mentors for the league are Sandeep Patil, Zaheer Khan, Vinod Kambli, Lalchand Rajput, Sameer Dighe and Amol Muzumdar.
