Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup: Tanmay century sets up HCA win

Opener Tanmay Agarwal cracked a stroke-filled century (131, 127b, 5x4, 5x6) to fashion HCA XI’s impressive 163-run win over Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) in the third round of the Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup match at the Gymkhana Ground here on Thursday.

Electing to bat, HCA XI openers Tanmay and P. Akshath Reddy (80, 86b, 7x4, 1x6) put on 148 runs in 27 overs before the latter got out mistiming a sweep shot off slow bowler Akshay Wakare.

However, Tanmay went on to score a splendid century.

Compounding the misery of CAG was the onslaught in the final overs by wicketkeeper batsman K. Sumanth (73, 59b, 6x4, 3x6) and the hard-hitting A. Ashish Reddy (58 not out, 25b, 1x4, 7x6) which effectively shut CAG out of contention as the home team posted 354 for four in 50 overs.

In reply, CAG folded up for 191 with left-arm spinner Syed Mehdi Hasan (three for 26) striking the big blows even as pacers Chama Milind, Mudassir Hussain picked two wickets apiece.

In another match, Naman Ojha struck an unbeaten 165 (149b, 14x4, 8x6) to help Air India emerge victorious by 17 runs over HCA President’s XI in VJD method after rain stopped play in the final overs.

Pacer S. K. Kamaruddin (six for 29) bowled Andhra Colts to an 82-run win over Vidarbha for its second win in three matches.

Andhra Colts 207 in 48.2 overs (K. Maheep Kumar 54, D.B. Ravi Teja 45, D. Naren Reddy 35, Jasveer Kumar Saini three for 27, Ravi Jangid three for 35, Darshan Nalkande three for 39) beat Vidarbha CA 125 in 37 overs (S.K. Kamranuddin six for 29).

 

HCA President’s XI 284 for seven in 50 overs (Yathin Reddy 67, Buddhi Rahul 60, Amol Shinde 58, Chandan Sahani 50) lost to Air India 256 for five in 45.1 overs (Naman Ojha 165 not out, Suresh Raina 32). (by 17 runs via VJD method).

 

Kerala CA 278 for eight in 50 overs (Albin Alias 81, Salman Nizar 95, Fabid Farooq Ahmed 39, M. Pradeep four for 41) beat Combined Districts 97 in 36 overs (K.C. Akshay three for 20).
