Following Vinay Kumar and Piyush Chawla’s centuries last year, Umesh Yadav joined the list of Indian tailenders to hit a first-class ton. The Indian speedster’s unbeaten 119-ball 128, peppered with 7 sixes and as many fours, was the largest share of Vidarbha’s innings of 467 all out against Odisha.

Vidarbha, carrying on from 276 for six, moved slowly until Umesh arrived at the crease at the fall of the eighth wicket. The six-foot brawny fast-bowler scored thick and fast to put Vidarbha in a commanding position. Odisha, in reply, were 79 for two by the end of day.

Ravindra Jadeja’s eight-wicket haul today put Tripura in a hopeless position against Saurashtra. Following his knock of 91 yesterday, Jadeja seemed unplayable on a crumbling surface at Rajkot. The left-arm spinner ripped through Tripura’s batting line-up, taking six wickets, bundling them out for 103 in the first innings.

Jadeja continued to torment Tripura in their follow-on, picking two wickets in the four overs he bowled. They were 11 for three at stumps, still adrift of Saurashtra’s total by 193 runs.

Chennai saw the fall of nineteen wickets on day two with Baroda and Tamil Nadu wrestling for the advantage. After being bowled out for 125, Tamil Nadu came back into the match bowling out the opposition for 155. Rahil Shah and D.T. Chandrashekar shared eight wickets among them.

Things didn’t begin well for Tamil Nadu in the second innings. Their skipper, Abhinav Mukund, was dismissed for a golden-duck by Swapnil Singh in the second ball of the innings. The TN batsmen went one after another.

Dinesh Karthik, who came after the fall of the fourth wicket, took his time to settle in and was starting to look comfortable. He played a sharp square cut off a raising delivery by skipper Yusuf Pathan. The next one, which was bowled at a fuller length, was put away to the deep square leg boundary. He was run out after he tried a risky single.

Malolan Rangarajan, coming after Karthik, played a brief cameo, delighting the 100-150 strong audience. He slog swept the second ball he faced for a six. He experimented with sweeps, reverse-sweeps and scoops before falling to Bhargav Bhatt, who claimed six wickets in the second innings, adding to the four he claimed in the first.

Tamil Nadu was all out for 155, setting a target of 122 for Baroda. With a dustbowl of a surface at Chepauk and two young spinners in Rahil Shah and Rangarajan, it will be a tricky chase for Baroda.

Meanwhile, Karnataka bounced back in spectacular fashion by dismissing Assam for 194 at the Barsapura stadium in Guwahati. The opening duo of Samarth and Mayank Agarwal began solidly in their second innings and helped Karnataka to a 70 run lead, with all wickets intact.
