Tamil Nadu's Rahil Shah and players celebrate the victory against Baroda during the Ranji Trophy league Cricket match at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

In a match that see-sawed from day one, Tamil Nadu held their nerve to beat Baroda by seven runs in front of a sparse crowd at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Chasing 122 on a dustbowl against three spinners was going to be tough for Baroda, especially with their inexperienced batting line-up. Tamil Nadu’s bowlers, especially Rahil Shah, exploited the crumbling pitch to run through the young Baroda line-up.

With Baroda needing just 11 runs, with four wickets remaining, the 29-year-old spinner held his nerve to bowl them out in just two overs. Only one batsman scored above 30 and nobody lasted for 50 balls.

The big-hitting Baroda skipper, Yusuf Pathan, was out for five. Deepak Hooda, who scored a brisk 32, was deceived by D. T. Chandrasekhar. “ Cool-ah aadu Chandra,” (play it cool, Chandra), screamed an aged member of the audience. Chandra and Tamil Nadu did; Baroda didn’t.

Services ease into 9-wicket win

There was no fairytale finish for Jharkhand in Delhi as they lost to Services by nine wickets. After getting out for 45 on the first day, they needed a spectacular effort from the batsmen in the second innings, but could manage to score only 192 runs. The spectacular effort came from Services’ Pathania, who took 13 wickets to shut out Jharkhand.

Chasing 78 for victory, Services reached the target with ease.

Jadeja show at Rajkot

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja did something similar in Rajkot to help Saurashtra thump Tripura by an innings and 118 runs. He picked up five wickets in the second innings, adding to his tally of six in the first.

Needing 193 more runs to make Saurashtra bat, Tripura were attacked by Jadejas from both ends. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who complemented Ravindra from the other end, picked up four wickets to help his team score seven points and top the table.

Sanju-Sachin duo give Kerala 155-run lead
