Delhi faces a rare defeat on its home turf at the Feroz Shah Kotla as Punjab bowlers put their team in a strong position on the second day of the Ranji Trophy match here on Thursday.
After establishing a first innings lead of 175 runs, Punjab, which scored 282 after resuming the day at 136 for three, reduced Delhi to 106 for six with an innings defeat looming large. Delhi ended the day 69 runs in arrears.

Mandeep Singh, 54 overnight, went on to make 90 (8x4) while Yuvraj added a mere eight runs to his score as Delhi managed to restrict the Punjab innings. But the home team response was timid on a pitch that demanded discipline.
Veteran Gautam Gambhir (60 with six fours and one six) held out some hope as he played some rousing strokes but lost his wicket in trying to pull. Delhi’s middle-order once again put up an embarrassing display and slid from 72 for no loss to 106. “Lack of application,” lamented Delhi coach Mithun Manhas.

Seamer Siddarth Kaul, who took six wickets in the first innings, once again bowled with lot of spirit and claimed two crucial wickets – Gambhir and Nitish Rana. The Punjab bowler and Rana got into a verbal spat which needed intervention from fellow players.
