Speedster Ishant Sharma has been released from the Indian Test team to participate in the fifth round Ranji Trophy group A game against Maharashtra, starting in New Delhi on Friday.

Ishant, who isn’t in the playing XI in the first Test against Sri Lanka that commenced at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata today, is expected to reach New Delhi by Thursday evening.

The Delhi skipper will rejoin the national team for the Nagpur Test starting November 24.

His current form in the domestic season — 15 wickets in six innings which included a five-for against Assam — brought him back in the reckoning.

His last international appearance for India in Tests came in March against Australia.
