The KSCA Stadium (Navule) here is the latest addition to the list of venues in the State, owned by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), to host a first-class fixture. In previous years, matches at Shivamogga were held at PES Institute of Technology and Management ground and Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering ground.

The encounter between Karnataka and Hyderabad, which concluded on Friday, saw the home side emerge victorious by 59 runs . It was a happy occasion for Karnataka skipper Vinay Kumar, who studied in Shivamogga when he was a young boy.

“We thoroughly enjoyed playing here. I went to school here until my third standard. After that, our family moved to Davangere (around 90 km from Shivamogga). It felt great to come back and play here. The ground is very good too - the pavilion and dressing room is very nice,” Vinay said.

The pacer said that more matches should be held at district venues. “The crowd support is more at districts when compared to Bengaluru. People here have fewer opportunities to watch first-class cricket.

"Young budding cricketers get a chance to watch and learn from their idols. It will be good if more matches are played in districts,” Vinay said.

The organisers stated that the stadium is set to host one first-class fixture every season. The logistics cost involved in hosting this Ranji Trophy match amounted to around ₹15 lakh, D.R. Nagaraj, convener of KSCA's Shivamogga zone said.
