Delhi’s Unmukt Chand donned the gloves as a substitute against Hyderabad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Group A match at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here on Sunday.

With captain Rishabh Pant not taking the field, Unmukt came on to the field when Hyderabad batted and did the wicket-keeping and also led the side for most of the day.

This, according to the HCA official scorer and also a qualified umpire P. Chandrasekhar, is now possible after the ICC introduced the revised law regarding substitutions.

“Earlier, a player only from the playing XI was allowed to don the gloves when the regular wicket-keeper was injured or out of action for any reason. Now, with the rule coming into force from October 1, 2017, any substitute can be the wicket-keeper in case of exigency,” Mr. Chandrasekhar informed.
