Ahead of the player’s draft for the third season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Karaikudi Kaalai has changed ownership with IDream Cinemas buying the team from the Chettinad Apparels.

The team will be called IDream Karaikudi Kaalai and appointed former Indian player and Tamil Nadu skipper S Badrinath as its head coach.

Badrinath was the captain for the side in the first two editions with the team progressing to the playoff last year. Speaking to Sportstar , Badrinath said, “It is a new challenge and I am really excited. It will be different compared to being a coach of a state or IPL side since I will be dealing with a lot of youngsters here.

"My job is to explain the roles and responsibilities and share my knowledge and experience with them.”

Looking ahead for the draft on Thursday, Badrinath said, “We have retained three good uncapped players in R. Rajkumar, M. Shahjahan and S. Mohan Prasath. So our first focus is to get a good team and tick some boxes as this will be the team for the next few years.”

Kaalai’s new Managing Director Rishikesh Sriram said, “We are all passionate about cricket and want to play a part in developing the sport in the state. That was a motivation to buy the team.”
