Russell Domingo said he is in no rush to decide whether to reapply for his job after South Africa completed a series whitewash over Sri Lanka to return to the top of the one-day international rankings.
Domingo's future was plunged into doubt last month when Cricket South Africa (CSA) revealed it will start the recruitment process to appoint a head coach following the tour of England.
The Proteas have been in outstanding form under Domingo, but the former assistant head coach is unsure whether he will put himself forward to stay on in the role beyond the fourth Test against England in August.
"There's a lot of water still to go under the bridge." Domingo said following an 80-run win in Centurion which sealed a 5-0 series win on Friday.
"I know guys are talking about the Champions Trophy and stuff, but that's months away [the tournament starts in June]. I'll focus entirely on the New Zealand series.
"I need to weigh up where I am in my life, where I am with my family, where I am with my career and make a call closer to the time. At this stage I'm not able to commit or not commit."
Hashim Amla made an imperious 154 at Super Sport Park to move level with AB de Villiers' ODI tally of 24 centuries, while Quinton de Kock made a brilliant 109 in the Proteas' mammoth total of 384-6.
A maiden ODI ton from Asela Gunaratne (114 not out) was in vain as the tourists fell short and South Africa replaced Australia at the top of the rankings.
South Africa captain De Villiers said: "I don't like to think 'yes you're the number one in the world', I'd rather look at the way we've been playing and how we are going to win championships and World Cups.
"And I think the way we've been playing is a great brand of cricket; very confident, very positive, great culture and those are the kind of things that are going to carry us through over the next few years."
