Gautam Gambhir's Duleep Trophy performance may finally pay off. With K.L. Rahul suffering an hamstring injury during India's victorious 500th Test in Kanpur, India coach Anil Kumble has reportedy shown interest in replacing him with the in-form Gambhir for the second Test in Kolkata.
The left-handed batsman, who last played for India in the 2014 tour of England and was dropped because of a series of poor scores, led India Blue to title triumph in the Duleep Trophy. He scored 356 runs at an average of 71.20.
According to reports, Gambhir is likely to go through a fitness test at the NCA in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
He has scored 4046 runs with an average of 42.58 in 56 Tests and has played some crucial knocks for India. Emergence of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma made it difficult for him to make a comeback to the Indian top-order.
