Gautam Gambhir to captain Delhi for Vijay Hazare Trophy

Unable to find a candidate who would be available for the entire tournament, the selectors were compelled to zero in on the former India opener.

Unable to find a candidate who would be available for the entire tournament, the Delhi selectors were compelled to pick Gautam Gambhir as the captain for the Vijay Hazare cricket tournament starting on September 19.

With Ishant Sharma injured, Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Shorey likely to be on duty with India and India ‘A’ teams, the selectors handed the reigns to Gambhir, who had last season made himself unavailable for captaincy. He had also stepped down from the Delhi Daredevils captaincy after a string of failures in the Indian Premier League last season.
