After a thrilling last-over win in its last game against Dindigul Dragons, Ruby Trichy Warriors will be high on confidence when it takes on defending champion Chepauk Super Gillies here on Saturday.

Asked if being a defending champion will be a factor in its campaign, Super Gillies coach, Hemang Badani, said, “It is something which has happened in the past. This is a fresh year with new players. We are looking forward to a fresh start.”

Super Gillies plays three out of its seven matches at Chennai this year but Badani played down home advantage factor. “It all boils down to how a particular side plays on that particular day. It is a neutral venue for all sides here.

“We do not go into a game with a win in our mind. It is all about ticking the boxes right and everyone performing the roles assigned to them perfectly. It lands you a win more often than not,” he added.

Trichy batting coach Hemant Kumar said that the focus of the team was to build on the winning start. ”We would love to carry on the momentum from the first game. We might tweak the batting order but this the best XI possible that we are taking into the game.”

“I would think the bowling side was under pressure (defending the 19 runs required off the last over). Unlike the IPL, it (scoring so many runs off the last over) is not easy in the TNPL, especially with the wind factor in Tirunelveli,” added Hemant.

Hemant also talked about the high percentage of boundaries in matches played in Dindigul, compared to the matches at the venues in Tirunelveli and Chennai, and emphasised the need to rotate strike. He cited the example of Bharath Shankar, who scored 28 of his 39 runs in boundaries in a 31-ball knock.

“In Tirunelveli and Chepauk you will have reduced boundaries unlike Dindigul. It is all about understanding strike rotation. More singles will boost your chances in Chepauk and Tirunelveli,” he signed off.

The Chepauk Super Gillies takes on the Ruby Trichy Warriors at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday at 07:15 PM IST.
