As Glenn Maxwell fell to his knee after getting hit on the helmet at the Lord’s on Wednesday, the team doctor Peter Brukner rushed to give him immediate treatment. Back from the Indian Premier League, the Australian batsman was in pain after he received a nasty blow to his helmet off a local net player’s bowling during a practice session ahead of the Champions Trophy.

In pain, the batsman, however, got up and walked out of the practice area. A worried Brukner checked Maxwell’s jaw and top of the neck, indicating that was the area of impact. While the senior doctor assured that the injury wasn’t that serious, Maxwell spent the rest of the session with ice packs.

The Australian side, however, suffered another injury scare as Matthew Wade received a knock on the helmet off Pat Cummins. After minutes of stress, he could again hit the nets. With the Champions Trophy set to begin next week, Australia takes on Sri Lanka in the first warm-up game at The Oval on Friday.
