Sri Lanka takes on the Proteas in their Champions Trophy at the Oval, in London, on Saturday. Read on to know how this battle shapes up in numbers:

 

  1. South Africa has won its last seven ODIs against Sri Lanka, four of those wins coming when batting first (all by at least 40 runs) and three when chasing (all by at least 7 wickets).
  2. This will be the fourth time these sides have met in the Champions Trophy, all three games have been won by the side batting first with South Africa winning the first two games but Sri Lanka the most recent encounter.
  3. Sri Lanka has lost four of its last six Champions Trophy games, however its two victories in that period both came at The Oval.
  4. South Africa has lost its last five ODIs at The Oval, its last victory at the venue coming against England in 1999.
  5. In 2013 South Africa was involved in the highest match aggregate score (636) in Champions Trophy history, South Africa (305) fell short of reaching India’s score of 331 by 26 runs in the group stage match.
  6. 2013 also saw the only tied match in the tournament’s history, again South Africa was involved with West Indies the opponents in that match.
  7. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have both hit 24 ODI centuries in their careers, more than anyone else for South Africa, only five players from any country have managed more tons than this.
  8. As a pair Amla and de Villiers average 75.6 in ODIs, making them the most successful partnership from any nation (20+ innings).
  9. Lasith Malinga has 22 wickets in the Champions Trophy, only two bowlers have taken more in the competition (Kyle Mills 28, Muttiah Muralitharan 24).
  10. Wayne Parnell is six wickets shy of reaching 100 ODI scalps, a six wicket haul would signify career best figures, his current best 5/48.
