Virat Kohli's India sealed a 36-run win over Australia at The Oval on Sunday.
Australia’s hopes rested on Warner and Steve Smith (69). The almost run-a-ball 72 partnership between Smith and Warner for the second wicket had kept the team on course for a win. The right-hander hit five fours and a six and looked like anchoring the innings to perfection when he was trapped in front by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
David Warner succumbed to leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal while Maxwell miscued a hit off Chahal which nipped Australia's run chase in the bud. Chahal's two for 62 was the perfect foil for seamers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Jasprit Bumrah's three late wickets proved decisive in India's win over Australia.
Dhawan’s ton (117, 109b, 16x4) top-lined India's innings while Rohit Sharma (57), Virat Kohli (82) and Hardik Pandya (48) played their parts. Dhawan practised watchful-consolidation before upping the ante. He was eventually snapped up by Mitchell Starc.
