Shakib goes past Rohit as World Cup 2019 top-scorer

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has overtaken Indian opener Rohit Sharma in the run-scoring charts against Pakistan on Friday.

Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan overtook India's Rohit Sharma in the run-scoring charts of the World Cup 2019 with a boundary off Mohammad Hafeez in the seventh over against Pakistan on Friday.

Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 64 off 77 balls in the match, finished the tournament with 606 runs with five fifties and two hundreds in the tournament. Shakib is the now the third highest run-scorer in a single World Cup behind Sachin Tendulkar (673 runs, 2003) and Matthew Hayden (659, 2007) and ninth among runs in World Cup history with 1146 runs in 29 matches.

With Bangladesh out of the semifinal race Indian opener Rohit Sharma (544), Australian openers David Warner (516) and Aaron Finch (504) will have a chance to finish the tournament as the top-scorer.

Shakib has had a excellent World Cup as he became the second player after Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya to score 1,000-plus runs and take 25-plus wickets in World Cups.

He is also the first player in the history of World Cup to score 500 runs and pick 10-plus wickets in a single edition following and became the second player to score a fifty and take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup match after Yuvraj Singh.

Over the course of the tournament, Shakib has become the fourth Bangladesh batsman to complete 6000 runs in ODIs. He also became the fastest to the double of 250 wickets and 6000 runs, getting there in 202 matches, 92 better than the next best (294 by Shahid Afridi).
