Hello and welcome to Sportstar's Highlights of the T20 World Cup 2021 Super 12 match between Bangladesh and England at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
England cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in its Super 12 T20 World Cup match to register its second straight win of the tournament. Chasing a modest 125, openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler (18 off 18) set the platform with a 39-run stand before one-drop Dawid Malan (28* off 25) joined in the chase to take England home. Roy fell for a 38-ball 61 in his 50th T20I match as Jonny Bairstow (8* off 4) took England home with a pull to the deep square leg boundary.
After opting to bat, Bangladesh was rocked by three early blows within the Powerplay that removed openers Litton Das (9 off 8) and Mohammad Naim (5 off 7) and Shakib Al Hasan (4 off 7). Moeen Ali struck twice off consecutive deliveries in the third over before Adil Rashid pulled off a stunner at short fine off Woakes to send back Shakib. Mushfiqur Rahim's (29 off 30) defiance was short-lived as he was caught in front by Liam Livingstone before Afif Hossain's comical run out and skipper Mahmudullah's dismissal left Bangladesh reeling at 83 for six. Tymal Mills' three wickets in the death dented any attempt of a late flourish as Bangladesh was reduced to 124/9 in its 20 overs.
FULL REPORT HERE: T20 World Cup: Moeen, Roy star in England's thrashing of Bangladesh
England beats Bangladesh by eight wickets.
Player of the match: Jason Roy 61(38)
ENG 126/2 in 14.1 overs: FOUR! Shoriful goes short and pulled to the deep square leg boundary by Bairstow. That's the win! England steamrolls over Bangladesh by eight wickets.
ENG 122/2 in 14 overs: Mustafizur to bowl. A couple of singles and FOUR! Short and wide and Malan swats it over cover region. Two more singles to end the over and England is three runs away from a comprehensive win.
ENG 114/2 in 13 overs: SIX! Inventive Roy. Short from Shoriful and Roy ramps it behind over fine leg and all the way. OUT! Cute again from Roy as he looks to guide a short one to third but finds the fielder this time. But he has almost taken home England with that knock. Jason Roy c Nasum Ahmed b Shoriful 61(38b 5x4 3x6). Bairstow comes in at number four. Middles it past cover for a couple as Shakib misfields.
ENG 104/1 in 12 overs: Nasum bowls. SIX! Roy shatters the slight lull with a brutal strike down the ground. That's his fifty, off 33 balls!
ENG 93/1 in 11 overs: Shoriful into the attack. Tests Roy with a bouncer and clumsily pulled away to fine leg for a single. Tidy over as just three come from it. Keeps it back of length and pitch map shows that England batters just go at 117 when decked in short and 200 when bowlers stray closer to the legs.
England needs 35 runs to win from 60 balls at 3.5 RPO.
ENG 90/1 in 10 overs: Five singles and two wides from the Shakib over. Roy and Malan are happy to punch the ball around and pinch singles. Suddenly this looks like a different pitch to bat on. Very little purchase for the slower bowlers.
ENG 83/1 in 9 overs: Mahedi continues. Malan reverse-sweeps again and whips to deep point for two. Five singles follow and Roy and Malan are looking at ease against the spin.
ENG 75/1 in 8 overs: Nasum to bowl his second over. FOUR! Malan reverse-sweeps on a full length and finds the boundary behind at third. Four singles and a FOUR! Malan gives himself room on the off-side and drives uppish over cover to the fence. England is cruising at the moment.
ENG 63/1 in 7 overs: Mahedi to bowl his off-spin. Malan punches straight to collect one at long-on. SIX! Roy unleashes again straight over the bowler's head. That was tonked! FOUR! Cut away off the backfoot. Two singles to end the over.
ENG 50/1 in 6 overs: Caught behind appeal first ball and turned down. Mustafizur looks interested and they review. Replay confirms no edge as the sound was Roy hitting his pads with the bat. Malan to face his first. Fends it back with a straight bat. Off the mark with a single to point. FOUR! Slided on leg and Roy whips it behind fine for a boundary. FOUR! On the pads again and Roy misses but the impact off the pads takes it to the boundary. The Fizz appeals desperately but the umpire is unmoved.
ENG 40/1 in 5 overs: Left-armer Nasum to bowl. OUT! Buttler looks to go inside out and chips it straight to deep extra cover. Jos Buttler c Naim b Nasum 18(18b 1x4 1x6). Single to end the over.
ENG 37/0 in 4 overs: Shoriful into the attack. FOUR! Pitched-up to Buttler who leans back slightly and spanks it over mid-on to the boundary. Three singles to end the over. England is making quick work of the Bangladeshi attack.
ENG 28/0 in 3 overs: Shakib continues. SIX! Buttler steps out effortlessly and smashes it straight over the ropes. A couple to end the over and ten runs come from it.
ENG 18/0 in 2 overs: Mustafizur with pace from the other end. Loud LBW appeal against Roy first ball and turned down. It jagged back in but was probably pitching outside leg. Nagged back in again to Buttler. Outside off and Buttler looks to drag it at midwicket but the bat rotates in his grip, no runs. On the leg again and Roy brushes it off his pad; one leg-bye. Wide down leg-side this time. FOUR! Half-volley and Roy doesn't miss out. Strokes it straight past the bowler with perfect timing on it. FOUR! Lucky this time. Gets an inside edge and it bounces in front of the stumps and runs past the keeper to the boundary.
ENG 7/0 in 1 over: FOUR! First ball and put away by Roy. Shakib bowls it wide and Roy throws his bat to pierce it between point and cover. Punched straight off the back-foot for a single. Batters work three singles and seven from it. That's all they need to canter to this total.
England will want to put this total behind it as soon as possible given the nature of the Group. However, how well England spinners bowled, Bangladesh might still be in with a fight here.
ENG 124/9 in 20 overs: Mills to bowl the last. Single to mid-off first ball. Way outside off and batters steal a single on the extra. Nurul shuffles way across off-stumps and Mills bowls it outside the wide-marker and the umpire obliges. Dot ball. Another dot as Nurul can't get a short one away. Nurul clubs it to long-on and Mills misses the ball as the batters come back for a second. OUT! Into the pitch again and Nurul misses the pull. Appeal from the keeper and England goes up for the review. And OUT! Snicko confirms a feather touch on the gloves and Nurul is on his way. Nurul Hasan c Buttler b Mills 16(18b 0x4 0x6). Mustafizur in and goes back without disturbing the scores. OUT! Knocked over first ball and that's the last for the innings. Mustafizur Rahman b Mills 0(1b 0x4 0x6).
BAN 119/7 in 19 overs: Rashid to bowl out. SIX! That's the first maximum of the innings and it comes off the bat of number nine Nasum. Pitched short and he shifted his weight back to muscle it over deep square leg. Good comeback by Rashid with two dots as he slides it in. SIX! Nasum goes big again. Short again and a similar assault as the previous one. Gets the meat of the bat on it and it disappears over mid-wicket. FOUR! More finesse this time as Nasum opens the face of the bat to caress it towards backward point.
BAN 102/7 in 18 overs: OUT! Mahedi was beginning to look settled and he departs. Looked to scoop it fine but doesn't get the elevation as Woakes gobbles it at short fine. Mahedi Hasan c Woakes b Mills 11(13b 2x4 0x6). Nasum the new man in. He is off the mark straightaway. Nasum launches it to long-off and the fielder runs in and is just short of pouching it. Two runs from it. A couple of dots and Mills at his best in the death overs.
BAN 98/6 in 17 overs: Rashid in and more spin and more trouble for BAN. A better over for BAN as seven come from it. But not something they will be happy with in the 17th over. A good looking FOUR! from Mahedi as he steps out to hammer it.
BAN 90/6 in 16 overs: Mills comes back after an expensive first over. FOUR! A fortuitous boundary as Mahedi hangs his bat as the ball shapes away from him. A thickish edge and it runs down the boundary at third.
BAN 83/6 in 15 overs: Livingstone in for a third over. OUT! Mahmudullah heaves as the pressure to score builds. Looks to slog on the on-side over mid-wicket but hands it straight to backward point. Mahmudullah c Woakes b Livingstone 19(24b 1x4 0x6).
BAN 80/5 in 14 overs: Jordan from the other end. Great variation of pace and the batters cannot find their timing. Just four from it.
BAN 76/5 in 13 overs: Livingstone will get a second over. FOUR! Short and Afif takes his time to rock backwards and squeeze it in front of point. OUT! Afif departs after a comical run out. Mahmudullah flicked it behind to short fine, Mills misfielded, batters looked for a second off the misfield, Afif hesitates on the second, commits to it and Mahmudullah sends him back scampering. Afif Hossain run out (Mills/Buttler) 5(6b 1x4 0x6). Nurul comes in and another run out appeal straightaway. But Nurul is in comfortably this time and gets a couple. A single off the last and there was another run out opportunity there!
BAN 66/4 in 12 overs: Woakes back into the attack. Tucked away by Mahmudullah for a single. Afif greeted by a lethal bouncer as he pulls his head away from the ball's trajectory. Tidy from Woakes. Mixing his pace and keeping it back of length.
BAN 63/4 in 11 overs: Livingstone to roll his arm over. Rahim reverse-sweeps and it runs away for FOUR! But loud LBW appeal from the bowler and Morgan goes up for the DRS. OUT! Scratch the four, it is a wicket! Rahim departs. Mushfiqur Rahim lbw b Livingstone 29(30b 3x4 0x6). Afif comes in and fends back two balls for two dots.
BAN 60/3 in 10 overs: Left-armer Mills over the wicket to Mahmudullah. Steals a quick one after hitting it along the deck and Mills gets a direct hit at the striker's end. Umpire review confirms Rahim was in by a few inches. Short and pulled away by the skipper for a couple. FOUR! Decked in short again and Rahim outwits Mills. Guides it over the keeper gently to the boundary. Full outside off and driven for a couple. Finally some convincing strokeplay by Bangladesh.
BAN 49/3 in 9 overs: Rashid continues. Two singles. FOUR! Mahmudullah hops to the pitch of the ball and lofts it over mid-off all the way to the rope. Rashid corrects his length and goes fuller on the stumps. One of the last three.
BAN 42/3 in 8 overs: Jordan into the attack. Rahim opens the face of the bat deftly to run it deep point for a couple. Wide down the leg and Rahim hopes to get some wood on it and misses. FOUR! Lucky but they'll take it. Looked to cut and got the bottom edge that raced to the boundary at third. More convincing cut from Rahim but finds the deep fielder and just one. Sliding down leg and swiveled to short fine for a single. Jordan missing his line here. Strays on the leg again and Rahim pushes to fine for one more. Too wide on the off this time and an extra for Bangladesh. Short and wide on off and Mahmudullah checks his drive to deep point for a single.
BAN 30/3 in 7 overs: Rashid in with some leg-spin. Reverse-swept by Rahim and Mills flies at short fine and the ball bounces off his fingertips. Great effort. Just three from the over as the batters keep finding the fielders.
BAN 27/3 in 6 overs: Woakes continues. OUT! Shakib departs. Short from Woakes and he looks to pick it behind square leg and Rashid takes a stunner. Shakib Al Hasan c Rashid b Woakes 4(7b 0x4 0x6). A single by Rahim to end the over.
BAN 24/2 in 5 overs: Moeen bowls his third in the Powerplay. Two singles off the first five balls and Moeen bowls a probing length just short of good length. Slightly fuller on last ball and FOUR! Rahim lifts it arrow straight and it runs to the boundary.
BAN 18/2 in 4 overs: Woakes continues. Good bounce and looks like Rahim has been stung on his hand. Pulled away for a single and just runs from the over.
BAN 15/2 in 3 overs: Moeen continues. A slip is in for Naim. Gets a single first ball. OUT! Litton departs. Top edges it to deep square leg trying to slog sweep. OUT! Naim looks to chip it over mid-on and finds the fielder. Litton Das c Livingstone b Moeen 9(8b 2x4 0x6). Mohammad Naim c Woakes b Moeen 5(7b 0x4 0x6). Rahim and Shakib at the crease.
BAN 13/0 in 2 overs: Woakes from the other end. On the money first-up and good bounce and comfortably defended by Naim. Close! Short and Naim rocks back and looks to pull on the on-side. Mid-off jumps and it is just out of reach, two runs. A single and two dots to end the over. Tidy from Woakes and bowling into the pitch seems to be a good ploy on this wicket.
BAN 10/0 in 1 over: First ball. Spins into Litton and cut on the backfoot to point for a dot. Shuffles to off and tucked off the pads and first run for Bangladesh. Naim takes one with a nudge to square leg. FOUR! Slightly shorter and Litton gets to the pitch of the ball and hammers it down the ground. FOUR! Slightly wide and driven through cover and mid-off.
Teams assemble for the national anthems. Off-spinner Moeen Ali to bowl to Liton Das with Mohammad Naim on the non-striker's end. Both teams take the knee ahead of the first ball.

How vital will the 'Shakib Factor' be for Bangladesh's prospects at the T20 World Cup?
Buoyed by the emphatic win over defending champion West Indies, England would look to continue its winning momentum when it faces Bangladesh in a Super 12 clash of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
Its bowling unit was right on the job as the Eoin Morgan-led England bundled out West Indies for a paltry 55 in 14.2 overs before cantering home in 8.2 overs.
Against an opposition which is familiar with the sluggish sub-continent conditions and capable of producing upsets, Morgan will ill-afford to rest on the laurels.
With the match starting in the afternoon, the reigning ODI world champion will be tested in the oppressive heat of Abu Dhabi where temperature soars above 32 degrees.
To its advantage, the Abu Dhabi strip is known to be aiding the pacers and Morgan may think of bringing in Mark Wood into the mix at the expense of a batter.
For Bangladesh - which has an abysmal World Cup record with just one of its seven wins since 2007 coming against a Test playing nation (West Indies) - the key would be to exploit the conditions in its first ever T20I World Cup clash against England.
Its star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan seemed to have been under-utilised in its loss against Sri Lanka.
The left-arm spinner gave a double blow in four balls as Sri Lanka was struggling at 79 for 4 inside 10 overs but he came in to bowl his third over in the fag end of the match when the Islanders were in complete control of the chase.
England has a formidable batting line-up but its top-order looked a bit shaky the other day even though it was chasing a paltry 56 and Bangladesh pace battery spearheaded by Mustafizur Rahman would look to give the early advantage.
Bangladesh also has the likes of Taskin Ahmed, injury replacement Rubel Hossaina and left-arm quick Shoriful Islam who is waiting in the pipeline. -PTI

Travelling reserves: Aminul Islam, Rubel Hossain
