Rishabh Pant (left) took three catches on Day Three to equal M. S. Dhoni’s record.

Rishabh Pant, on Saturday, equalled M. S. Dhoni’s record of most catches taken by an Indian wicketkeeper in a Test innings, claiming six catches during Australia’s first innings here on Saturday.

DAY THREE REPORT

The 21-year-old contributed to the dismissals of Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb and Tim Paine on the second day. On Day Three, he helped dismiss Mitchell Starc, Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood. Pant’s sixth catch was off Hazlewood’s bat, off the bowling of fast bowler Mohammed Shami.

Dhoni had achieved his record feat in 2009 during a Test in Wellington against New Zealand.

Pant, who is playing his sixth Test, was selected in the Indian team following the injury to Wriddhiman Saha and the retirement of Dhoni in 2014. Pant has scored 346 runs at an average of 43.25, with a highest score of 114 against England.
