STUMPS DAY 2 - INDIA 85/2, LEADS BY 58 RUNS.

SESSION RECAP: India ended the day on a high, with both of its warhorses Pujara and Rahane forging a crucial 41-run partnership in quick time. After India restricted South Africa's first innings lead to 27 runs, owing to Thakur's seven-wicket haul, skipper KL Rahul fell early to Jansen. Mayank carried on with a fluent knock of 23 before leaving one from Olivier that nipped back in and foxed him in front of the stumps. Pujara and Rahane took on the challenge and encashed on the fuller lengths that the bowlers resorted to towards the end of the day, taking the team to a comfortable position and accumulating much-needed runs amidst a poor run of form. The match heads into day three with India slightly ahead as batting fourth on this pitch that is already showing menacing signs of variable bounce will be a handful.

IND 85/2 in 20 overs: Last over the the day. Maharaj to bowl spin. FOUR! Pujara slashes off the backfoot for a boundary at deep cover after three dots. Leaves the next one alone outside off. FOUR! Edged from a straight line and four more at the third man boundary for Pujara. STUMPS!

IND 77/2 in 19 overs: Rabada pegs the batters back with a better length that keeps them guessing. But both Pujara and Rahane are putting on a good show here of aggression and resilience. Pujara retains strike with a flick to deep square leg.

IND 74/2 in 18 overs: FOUR! Too full outside off and Pujara drives it past point to the boundary. Two short ones follow, one that jags back sharply and one that has Pujara ducking in haste. FOUR! Too full again on middle and leg and Pujara drives it to the long on boundary. South Africa leaking runs here at the backend of the day.

IND 65/2 in 17 overs: FOUR! A stellar cover-drive by Rahane. Leaned into the drive on a full one on fourth stump by Rabada. Defends the next back on the backfoot to short mid on. No-ball called by the third umpire. Beaten! Sideways movement from off stump line and Rahane is beaten. Turned away off the pads for a single at deep backward square leg. Sharp bounce again from good length and Pujara gets it on his glove. Well-defended on front foot to end the over.

IND 59/2 in 16 overs: FOUR! Too full from Jansen and Pujara drives it past mid off for a boundary. Pujara leaves the following couple of balls, one on the off and a short one that goes down leg. Gets behind a back of length delivery on the stumps and fends it back to Jansen. Pujara looking solid.

IND 55/2 in 15 overs: Rabada back into the attack and starts off with a short one that rears up on Rahane but it is down leg side. Beaten on the pull! Rahane pulled but it kept low and the ball whizzed under the blade. This one surprises him with the bounce on it and he fends it with one hand off the handle of the bat. Good comeback from Rabada.

IND 55/2 in 14 overs: Rahane drives a full one from Olivier past mid on for a couple and 50 is up for India. Jagged in from back of length and Rahane fends it late for a single. FOUR! Pulled away by Pujara and takes the top edge for a boundary behind.

IND 48/2 in 13 overs: Jansen continues. A couple of balls in the channel from across and Pujara is being seriously tested here. Over-pitched and Pujara turns it away through mid wicket for three runs. Rahane off the mark with a nudge to point for a single.

IND 44/2 in 12 overs: FOUR! Olivier comes back in the attack and sprays it on leg. Pujara pulls it to the fine leg fence. An identical pull but just a single this time. FOUR! Half volley and beautifully driven thorough extra cover. OUT! Mayank leaves one on off stump and the umpire lifts his finger straightaway. Mayank Agarwal lbw b Duanne Olivier 23(37b 5x4 0x6). Rahane in and starts off with a confident front-foot defensive shot.

IND 35/1 in 11 overs: FOUR! Four dot balls and Jansen strays on leg side and Mayank whips it away behind to the boundary. A leading edge to end the over; it almost carried to the fielder at cover as Mayank closed the blade too soon.

IND 31/1 in 10 overs: Pujara deceived for extra bounce as it spits up from a length and whizzes bat the shoulder of the bat. Ngidi now gets Pujara's outside edge as he angles it in on off stump and shapes it away. He played it with soft hands to his credit, thus not allowing it to carry to the slip fielder. First convincing shot of the over as Pujara defends back to Ngidi with a straight bat. Maiden over!

IND 31/1 in 9 overs: Sharp bowling from Jansen as he gets it to rise and sting Pujara over his thigh. Bouncer and misses everything and a couple of byes.

IND 28/1 in 8 overs: Punched off the backfoot by Mayank through covers and three runs for him. Pujara is off the mark with a single at fine leg.

IND 24/1 in 7 overs: Change from the other end too as Jansen replaces Rabada. He comes from across to KL from over the wicket. OUT! Rahul pokes tentatively outside off and hands an edge to the slips. Umpires checking if that one carried to the fielder. Third umpire reckons the fingers were underneath the ball and the on-field umpire's decision of 'out' stands. KL Rahul c Aiden Markram b Marco Jansen 8(21b 1x4 0x6). Pujara is greeted with a bouncer that goes down leg.

IND 24/0 in 6 overs: Ngidi replaces Olivier. Slightly veering down leg and defended to short leg by KL. On the pads again and KL flicks it for a single at mid on. Beaten! Tight line outside off and shaped away off the seam to beat Mayank's outside edge. Shorter and on the stumps and Mayank hops to defend it on the onside. Three dots to end the over as Ngidi keeps it on leg stump.

IND 23/0 in 5 overs: FOUR! Driven straight back and past the bowler with a transfer of weight in front and to the boundary. Third boundary for him today. FOUR! Half-volley on the pads and Mayank flicks it away to the mid wicket boundary. A couple of dots to end the over.

IND 15/0 in 4 overs : Almost chops on! This wasn't short enough from Olivier and KL almost chopped onto his stumps trying to cut off the backfoot. FOUR! Slashed hard by KL over gully and what a cracking shot.

IND 11/0 in 3 overs: Rabada continues. FOUR! Mayank breaks free after three dots and plays a square drive on the up and to the boundary. FOUR! Half-volley and gets his front foot forward for a textbook cover-drive. Inside swing beats Mayank and gets him on top of the knee roll. Umpire turns down the appeal.

IND 3/0 in 2 overs: Olivier from the other end. Shot! Back of length and KL punches it off the backfoot through covers for a couple. On a fifth stump line outside off and KL lunges forward and moves his bat away late to leave.

IND 1/0 in 1 over: Rabada with the new ball to KL Rahul. Wayward line wide down leg first ball and KL lifts his arms to watch it go. Jagged into him from a length and flicked away fine for a single and India is away. A peach! In the corridor and moves away from Mayank's outside edge as he hangs his bat. Driven outside off and it kept low to take his toe of the bat and go to the keeper on the bounce. Outside off again and this time Mayank resists the temptation and leaves.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal walk out to the middle to kickstart India's second innings. India will need to be watchful, negotiate the variable bounce and hope to end the day without the loss of a wicket.

SOUTH AFRICA FIRST INNINGS - 229 ALL OUT, LEADS BY 27 RUNS

SA 229/10 in 79.4 overs: OUT! Jansen top-edged a full length from Thakur and Ashwin holds on to very good catch as it took a lifetime to come down from the heavens. Wicket number six for Thakur. Marco Jansen c Ravichandran Ashwin b Shardul Thakur 21(34b 3x4 0x6). Olivier gets off the mark with a single. OUT! Ngidi edges a wide one to Pant and Thakur ends with seven in the innings. Lungi Ngidi c Rishabh Pant b Shardul Thakur 0(1b 0x4 0x6).

SA 228/8 in 79 overs: Olivier is finally back on strike. A scattered LBW appeal and Shami pleads KL to go up. India loses the review as it was going down leg. Maiden over.

SA 228/8 in 78 overs: FOUR! Into the wicket and Jansen gets a top edge trying to pull it and it goes over the keeper and to the boundary. Well-driven to long off this time but Jansen doesn't want the single again. A slower yorker deceives Jansen. FOUR! Full on the stumps and Jansen digs it out to the long on boundary. Good reply by Bumrah with a well-directed bouncer down leg side as Jansen coils away sharply to avoid it.

SA 220/8 in 77 overs: Thakur pitches it full on the stumps and Jansen flicks it to deep square leg but doesn't take the single. Olivier is probably not in a position to hold the bat after that hit. A flourish down the ground this time and the batters will collect a couple. A risky single to end the over and Jansen desperately keeps the strike.

SA 217/8 in 76 overs: Another bouncer from Bumrah and Jansen leans back to get out of its way. Pant does well to leap on leg side and keep it to one. No-ball! This one looks at it got stuck in Bumrah's hand as he sent down a beamer to Jansen. OUT! Knocks Maharaj over and gone! Pitched around off and nipped away a touch to rattle into Maharaj's off stump as he missed a uppish drive. Keshav Maharaj b Jasprit Bumrah 21(29b 3x4 0x6). Olivier the new batter and a fitful LBW appeal from Bumrah first ball. Olivier cops one on his arm! He took his eye off a length delivery that climbed into him unexpectedly...for the umpteenth time today. The physio is out and some visible swelling over the arm guard area. Olivier gets bat on ball with a good front front defence.

SA 213/7 in 75 overs: Length on off stump and Maharaj mistimes a heave and it falls over mid on in vacant land. A couple of runs. FOUR! Maharaj gets enough willow on it this time and it goes to the boundary over mid on. Another single for Maharaj with a dab to backward point. The lower-order is chipping away.

SA 206/7 in 74 overs: Two singles and a leg bye from that over. Jansen steers a yorker towards third man for one before Maharaj was deceived by a late yorker down leg that trickled to fine leg for a leg-bye.

SA 203/7 in 73 overs: Maharaj steers a fuller one to mid off for a quick single. SA just a run away from India's score. Jansen negotiates with that nips into him from a length on fifth stump and keeps low. Good from Thakur. Chance and short of Pant! It reared from back of length onto Jansen and he miscued the pull and it ricocheted off his shoulder and looped up and fell just short of Pant. A couple to end the over and SA is ahead by one run. He picked it up from a fullish length deep into the mid wicket area to collect two runs.

SA 200/7 in 72 overs: Bumrah from the other end. A single for Maharaj with a push to mid off. Stifled LBW appeal against Jansen and it doesn't please the umpire. FOUR-BYES! Bouncer that blazes over Jansen and Pant, who gets his hands on it, and runs to the boundary. 200 is up for SA.

SA 195/7 in 71 overs: Thakur will resume proceedings. A couple of length balls to Jansen that surprise him with extra bounce. FOUR! This one kept its line outside off and Jansen cut it through cover and point. Brings it back into Jansen from a similar length next ball and he is beaten comprehensively. That stung him! Some nasty bounce and that has struck Jansen on the chest. He takes off his gloves with nonchalance and he will need some treatment. The ball sent a puff of dust into the air as it pitched on a good length and rose devilishly onto him. The physio tending to Jansen with some ice and he is ready to continue. Drives straight to disturb the woodwork at the other end of the crease.

Back for LIVE action from the third and final session.

TEA DAY 2 - SOUTH AFRICA 191/7 IN 70 Overs

That session belonged to India and Thakur, who grabbed his first five-for in Tests and has kept India very much alive in this match. He is leading the Indian players back to the dressing room. Bavuma will be gutted with himself - threw away his wicket after a beautiful fifty. Jansen and Maharaj will try and erase the deficit as quickly as possible after the break. Back in 20.

Shami to Maharaj, no run. Maharaj punches the third ball through extra cover for four. Single follows. Jansen keeps out the last ball. That's tea.

SA 185/7 in 69 overs: Thakur to Maharaj. Two slips and a gully. Maharaj plays a good pull shot for four. Valuable runs. Single next ball. Five from the over.

SA 180/7 in 68 overs: Shami is back. KG on strike with three slips waiting to pouch an edge. GONE ! Rabada has chipped one straight to mid-on. Keshav Maharaj is the new man in. Three slips in place. Shami greets Maharaj with a bumper, the batter ducks under it comfortably. A single to end the over.

SA 179/6 in 67 overs: Jansen is the new man in. Thakur continues. Bavuma gets to his fifty with a boundary off a thick outside edge. GONE ! Bavuma has been strangled down leg side - great take by Pant and it's a five-for for Thakur. First five-for in Tests. The umpires were checking if it was a clean take - yes, it is. Rabada is the new man in. Thakur's bowled a no-ball, called by the third-umpire. Rabada got a single too.

SA 172/5 in 66 overs: Ashwin to Bavuma, flicked through midwicket for four. Bavuma clubs the last ball for six over square leg.

SA 162/5 in 65 overs: Thakur continues. Two slips in place. Bavuma collects a single first ball. Verreynne on strike. He has been given out lbw but he reviews. It's three reds and Verreynne departs. It's Thakur with the breakthrough again! Just half an hour before the break. SA still trail by 40 runs.

SA 161/4 in 64 overs: Ashwin. A dot later, Verreynne and Bumrah get a single each. Three dots follow.

SA 159/4 in 63 overs: Shardul returns. Bavuma plays a cracking shot square of the wicket for four. That was short, outside off and waiting to be hit. Bavuma collects a couple off the third ball. Three dots follow. Six from it.

SA 153/4 in 62 overs: Ashwin. Verreynne brings up the 50 stand with a single off the second ball. Bavuma gets a single next ball. Two off the over.

SA 151/4 in 61 overs: Bumrah to Bavuma, no run. Two slips and a gully now. Bavuma has once again looked rock solid. SHOT! Bavuma presents the full face of the bat and pumps it down the ground for four - timing and elegance. Just a boundary from the over.

SA 147/4 in 60 overs: Ashwin around the wicket to Bavuma. He takes a single off the second ball, worked towards midwicket. Slip and short leg in place. He is bowling over the wicket to Verreynne. Just one from the over.

SA 146/4 in 59 overs: Good partnership this. It's worth 43 now. Bavuma on strike. Bumrah kickstarts proceedings after the short break. Two dots later, Bavuma steals a quick single. Five dots and a single from that over.

- DRINKS -

SA 145/4 in 58 overs: Ashwin. Slip and short leg in place for Bavuma, who collects a couple off the second ball. A single to Bavuma off the fifth. Verreynne takes two off the last ball.

SA 140/4 in 57 overs: Bumrah. Three slips and a gully. Verreynne on strike. He drives one nicely for a couple off the third ball. Three from the over including a wide.

SA 137/4 in 56 overs: Siraj. Bavuma on strike. Just a lone slip now. There's a gully too. Four dots later, Bavuma exploits the gap on the on side with a boundary to deep mid-wicket,

SA 133/4 in 55 overs: Double change. Bumrah now. Bumrah to Verreynne, no run. Three slips and a gully in place. Maiden to kickstart a new spell.

SA 133/4 in 54 overs: Siraj back into the attack. Bavuma takes a single first ball. Siraj still operating in the 130s, not quite as quick as he can be but he is keeping the South African batters on their toes. Appeal for lbw vs Verreynne but clearly going down leg. Verreynne will retain strike with a single off the last ball.

SA 131/4 in 53 overs: Thakur to Bavuma, appeal for lbw first ball but there is a clear inside edge. Another appeal, for caught behind this time, from Pant but no one else is interested. Verreynne went for the flick and missed.

SA 130/4 in 52 overs: Loud LBW appeal but turned down and India will go up. It skidded onto Verreynne from a length, nipped in slightly. Huge inside edge however and India loses a review.  Shami mixing up his lengths, continues to ask questions. Ends the over with a peach that rears in sharply after pitching - doesn't disturb the woodwork.

SA 129/4 in 51 overs: Thakur continues. The square leg is back but Verreynne has pulled a short ball for four to backward square. At Thakur's pace, these are really easy pickings. Verreynne plays a delightful drive between cover and point for four. 10 from the over.

SA 119/4 in 50 overs: Shami wheels away from the other end. He has been relentless with his line and length, probing away in the channel outside off. Verreynne collects a single off the second ball. Bavuma gets a thick outside edge off the third delivery and collects four, the ball racing away to the third-man fence. Three very good deliveries from Shami to end the over - a short of a length ball climbing at Bavuma, followed by another short of a length ball angling towards the batter and a yorker to wrap it up.

SA 113/4 in 49 overs: Thakur. Verreynne on strike. Even Thakur is getting the ball to swing - just enough to keep the batters on their toes. What an exceptional spell this has been from Shardul. And then there's the awkward bounce that's making life difficult for the batters. Testing session this for the Proteas. Three from that over.

SA 110/4 in 48 overs: Shami continues. Verreynne gets a single off the second ball. Bavuma collects a couple off the next. Three from the over.

SA 107/4 in 47 overs: Verreynne gets off the mark with a three off the last ball of Thakur's seventh. Length ball outside off, pushed past backward point to get his innings underway.

SA 104/4 in 46 overs: Shami continues. Three slips in place for Bavuma. Three dots later, Bavuma is off the mark with a couple. Just two from the over. Shami getting some appreciable swing.

SA 102/4 in 45 overs: Thakur has got two balls left in his fifth over. SA has two new batters in the middle and still trails by 100. Verreynne will be on strike. Two dots to end the over.

Welcome back for the second session.

- SESSION 2 -

LUNCH DAY 2 - SOUTH AFRICA 102/4 IN 44.4 OVERS

SESSION RECAP: A pulsating session of Test cricket and India will take the honours, courtesy Shardul Thakur's late wickets. Keegan Petersen and Dean Elgar put South Africa in control with a masterclass in defence and frustrated the pacers for over 20 overs before Thakur drew first blood with one that moved away. Petersen brought up his maiden Test fifty but lost focus after that as he drove expansively to hand Thakur his second wicket. Rassie van der Dussen was then done in at the stroke of Lunch with a sharp in-swinger that cut him in half and carried (well almost) to Pant off the inside edge. Replays showed the ball might have not carried to the keeper but the players had walked off the field for Lunch by then.

SA 102/4 in 44.4 overs: Thakur runs in for the last over before Lunch. OUT! Third one for Thakur in the first session. Nipped in from a length and a good diving forward catch from Pant behind the stumps. The players have walked off the field to take Lunch. The replay shows the ball hit the ground briefly before Pant pouched it. Hard luck for van der Dussen who walked. Rassie van der Dussen c Rishabh Pant b Shardul Thakur 1(17b 0x4 0x6).

SA 102/3 in 44 overs: Shami to van der Dussen. A menacing bouncer to van der Dussen that makes him smell the leather. A little rattled, he miscues a pull shot next ball that reaches fine leg on the bounce. He is off the mark with that off his 13th ball.

SA 101/3 in 43 overs: OUT! Another one for Thakur. Petersen loses his focus a bit and went for the drive outside off stump and edged it to slip. Keegan Petersen c Mayank Agarwal b Shardul Thakur 62(118b 9x4 0x6). Bavuma walks in just minutes before Lunch.

SA 101/2 in 42 overs: Shami starts off with two absolute beauties that test Petersen's outside edge as they move away from a tight off stump line, forcing him to play. Shout for caught behind and given! Van der Dussen reviews immediately and the umpire has to overturn his decision. Replay confirms it went off the flap of back pad.

SA 100/2 in 41 overs: Maiden over from Thakur as he moves the ball away from Petersen. However, it is too wide outside off to threaten the batter.

SA 100/2 in 40 overs: FOUR! Maiden Test 50 for Petersen off 103 balls. A thickish outside edge past gully to the boundary wide of third man. FOUR! Flicked off the pads and behind square leg. Two fours in two balls for the young man. Delectable drive and FOUR more! Half-volley outside off, shifts his weight forward and driven through covers. This one nips in and gets his inside edge onto  his back thigh.

SA 88/2 in 39 overs: Another three runs for Petersen as he steers a short one from Thakur through extra cover. He moves to 49 with that. Thakur persists with a back of a length delivery from over the wicket to Elgar. OUT! The persistence pays off. Moved away after pitching and Elgar prodded and paid the price. Dean Elgar c Rishabh Pant b Shardul Thakur 28(120b 4x4 0x6). Rassie van der Dussen is the new man in. Leaves one in the channel to start off with.

SA 85/1 in 38 overs: FOUR! Ashwin overpitches and Elgar punishes that down the track with a boundary. He did well to get on top of the ball and smother the spin before placing it skillfully far from Ashwin's left.

SA 79/1 in 37 overs: Thakur into the attack. A beauty from Thakur that keeps it line before moving away a hint to beat Elgar's outside edge. FOUR! That one takes a thick outside edge as Elgar looks to defend from his crease with this wrists in front and trickles between slip and gully.

SA 74/1 in 36 overs: Resolute defence from Petersen who first camps inside the crease to defend then presses forward to continue deadbatting. Test cricket at its best on display here.

SA 74/1 in 35 overs: Siraj seems to be getting into his rhythm and pace. A bit too full this over though. A fuller one strays down the leg and Petersen flicks it to fine leg and Vihari does a good job of parrying it back in as he has his silly point pads one.

SA 70/1 in 34 overs: Ashwin bowls it much fuller this over and Elgar collects one more with a straight drive that goes through Ashwin's legs.

SA 69/1 in 33 overs: Attritional batting from Elgar continues. He defends even the half-volleys and that seems to have gotten under Siraj's skin as he says a few words as Elgar looks away with a wry smile. A single off the last ball for Elgar and that's just his fifth run of the day.

SA 68/1 in 32 overs: Ashwin continues after the break. FOUR! A backfoot cut from Petersen and another boundary for him.

DRINKS BREAK - SESSION 1 DAY 2 - SA 64/1 in 31 overs

SA 64/1 in 31 overs: Much better from Siraj as he correct his line and length after a scratchy first over. He beats Elgar's outside edge with a scrambled seam that shapes away from across. Time for Drinks!

SA 63/1 in 30 overs: Ashwin to introduce spin. FOUR! Short and Elgar half pulls it to the square leg boundary and Elgar finally opens his account for the day. What a comeback by Ashwin to beat Elgar outside edge with one that turns away. Some extra bounce for Ashwin too as this one spins into Elgar and almost takes his glove.

SA 59/1 in 29 overs: Siraj is into the attack after an injury scare late on Day 1. FOUR! Pitched full on middle and leg and Petersen drives that gloriously through to the mid wicket fence. Siraj is running with a much shorter run-up after a harmstring niggle. FOUR! Half-volley outside off and Petersen drives it with a forward stride behind point. Siraj is struggling here, clocking just 128 kmph.

SA 51/1 in 28 overs: A short cover is in for Petersen as Bumrah continues from the other end. Comes in again from the angle and into Petersen, who shoulders arms. He seems to be getting the hang of that angle as he confidently defends a couple of balls to end the over.

SA 50/1 in 27 overs: Peach from Shami! Nips into Petersen from a length and cuts him in half, flying over the off and middle stump. This one rushes into Petersen and thuds onto his pads but that was evidently going down leg. Tucked away to mid wicket and Petersen scurries for a single. Fifty up!

SA 49/1 in 26 overs: Bumrah gets it into Elgar from short of a length on off and the swing means Elgar cannot punch it on the off. Another appeal for caught behind and umpires go up. They are sure about the edge but want to confirm if it touched the ground along the way. This is turning out to be very close as the bat hit the ground just as the ball was close to it. Not Out! Third umpire reckons it did go off the ground after taking the edge. Edged but short of gully this time. Elgar living dangerously. Nipped in again and gets the inner half of Elgar's blade.

SA 49/1 in 25 overs: Loud appeal for caught behind and turned down. Swami swung it into Petersen who missed the flick as Pant thought there was an edge on that. Rahul, however, refuses to go up. Petersen shifts his weight back and planes a wide one on off through covers for a couple. Shami beats Petersen's edge by moving it away from a fifth stump line as the batter looked to poke at it. Another probing over from Shami and India looks to be on the cusp of a wicket.

SA 47/1 in 24 overs: Bumrah continues, keeping his release wide of the stumps to create the angle to the right-handed Petersen. Crisply driven from a fuller length and Petersen scurries for a third after hitting it through covers. Elgar continues to look iffy today as he leaves one in the channel a little late. This one was full on off and Elgar defends it to mid off.

SA 44/1 in 23 overs: Variable bounce again as this one from Shami to Elgar keeps low from a good length and Elgar gets down in time to protect his stumps. A change of bat for the South African skipper after a couple of balls in the over. This one does too much and shoots off to the leg side as Elgar misses the flick. Shami on target and extra bounce has Elgar fending one that almost rolls onto the stumps. Another maiden from Shami to Elgar.

SA 44/1 in 22 overs: Bumrah moves it away in the air now and away from Petersen. No-ball from Bumrah for overstepping. A jaffa! Bumrah jags one in sharply after shaping three away from Petersen as the ball misses the stumps by a whisker. Perfect set-up! FOUR! Missed his line and Petersen whipped it fine for a boundary. Petersen (22) brings up his highest Test score with that four.

SA 39/1 in 21 overs: Uneven bounce again as Petersen gets it higher on the bat than he would have wanted to as he looked to skim one past point. Shami errs in line and slides it down leg as Petersen flicks it to fine leg for a single. Incisive line and length and some seam movement for Shami from round the wicket to Elgar. He leaves one down the channel and Elgar is yet to score a run on day two.

SA 38/1 in 20 overs: Bumrah from the other end. Full on off stump and solidly defended by Petersen. Punched off the backfoot by Petersen through covers and three runs for him. Beaten! Bumrah has Elgar slashing wide and is beaten for the extra bounce. Variable bounce already coming into play early in the day and Elgar signals the same to Petersen after being beaten. Bumrah keeps a better length to Elgar.

SA 35/1 in 19 overs: Wide outside off to Elgar from round the wicket and he leaves it alone. Some seam movement for Shami to begin with. Elgar edges one that climbs into him from a length and goes off the splice. In the channel and Elgar shouldering arms again. Shami angles one into Elgar from back of a length and he tucks it away off the backfoot. A beauty to end the over as the ball whizzes past Elgar's edge as he decides to leave at the last moment. Maiden over.

Both batters are out in the middle and Shami has the new ball. All set for the second day's play.
