Indian captain Virat Kohli said his side did well to put itself in a position from where it could attempt to force a win. “After the situation we were in, we did very well. We could not win and they deserve credit for batting very well to save it. They were four down at lunch and credit to them for not losing a wicket between lunch and tea.” he said.

Match report

About selection of the team for the final Test at Dharamshala, Kohli said, “We sent Mohammed Shami to play in domestic cricket. We wanted to give him match practice. I’ve not spoken to selectors but there are all kinds of possibility approaching the next Test.”

On how the pitch played here, the Indian captain observed, “I think the hardness of the ball was a big factor. When the ball was new last night, it spun well off the rough. Even this morning, it was spinning well. But in the middle session, the ball was not hard, so could not generate that kind of pace from the wicket.”

“We sent Mohammed Shami to play in domestic cricket. We wanted to give him match practice. I’ve not spoken to selectors but there are all kinds of possibility approaching the next Test.”

The Indian captain said, “We’re happy with our effort. Jadeja was outstanding, his economy on this wicket was impressive. He proved why he is joint number one bowler in the world.”

Asked about the rise of Cheteshwar Pujara, Kohli said, “Sometimes I feel really bad for him that people don't understand his importance in this team. You know what a valuable player he is for us. He is the most composed player we have in the team. He is willing to grind for his runs.”

Asked about Wriddhiman Saha’s performance, Kohli said, “Saha's knock was brilliant for us. He always stood up for us whenever the team needed him.”

Queried about Ashwin being brought in so late in the first session, Kohli replied, “There was more help for the spinners from the commentator’s end, so we gave Jadeja a long bowl from there and had pacemen from the other end where there was more encouragement for them. Ashwin bowled a lot in the subsequent two sessions.”
