India head coach Anil Kumble summed up the day’s proceedings for India and said it was one of those days for the team where nothing went as per plan. “We were bound to have one bad day, it was disappointing. You have to give credit to the Australian bowlers, they bowled well,” Kumble said.

Kumble didn’t blame the pitch for the team’s disastrous batting performance, saying that the pitch was challenging and only required some application. “We didn’t adapt really well and that was required on this pitch. We should have consolidated on the Rahane-Rahul partnership, but that didn’t happen. There is still a lot of cricket left to be played and hopefully we can get them out cheaply tomorrow.”

The former spinner praised O’Keefe’s performance, but felt that the Indian spinners bowled well too. “He (O’Keefe) bowled consistently in good areas and got rewards. We played a couple of poor shots as well. Jadeja, too, was beating the bat thrice every over, but wasn’t getting the nick, it was that sort of a day for us.”

Rahul injury not serious

K. L. Rahul, who departed in some agony is likely to play his part in the remainder of the game, according to Kumble. “He has a bit of a shoulder problem, but he should be OK. We will wait for 24 hours before coming to any conclusion. I don’t think injury played any role in that shot (the one he was dismissed), it was more of the shot creating an injury,” said Kumble with a laugh.
