The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted a ‘break’ to India’s strength and conditioning trainer Shankar Basu. The unavailability of Basu will be for a short period that comprises two international assignments for India – the limited-overs leg of England’s tour of India, and the one-off Test against Bangladesh in February.
Anand Date has been temporarily appointed by the board in Basu’s absence.
Last month, Sportstar > had reported on Basu’s wish for a lengthy break from his service for family and business reasons. Basu had requested the board for leave until Champions Trophy in June.
But it can be inferred from the board’s communiqué that he will be back to serve the team before Australia’s Test tour of India in March.
“The BCCI would like to inform that Team India strength & conditioning trainer Mr Shankar Basu has opted for a break from the Paytm ODI Trophy - 2017, Paytm T20I Trophy - 2017 against England and one off Paytm Test match to be played against Bangladesh in February 2017 for personal reasons,” the release stated.
