England's wicketkeeper batsman Jonny Bairstow is likely to miss the rest of the series after he suffered a fractured finger on the third day of the third Test against India at Trent Bridge.

Bairstow sustained the injury to his middle finger during the 44th over of India's innings while gathering a James Anderson delivery. Jos Buttler, who plays as a specialist batsman in the side, took over the wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the innings as Bairstow received treatment.

The England management is hopeful of Bairstow coming out to bat if required as it looks to chase down a mammoth target of 521. The 28-year-old is the leading run-scorer for the home side with 206 runs at an average of 51.50.

The fourth Test is set to begin from July 27 in Southampton while the final Test will take place at the Oval from September 7. England leads the five-match series 2-0.
