Morgan disappointed with England’s batting collapse

England's captain Eoin Morgan expressed disappointment at a batting collapse he termed as the worst in "two or two-and-a-half-years" against India in Bengaluru.

Eoin Morgan's dismissal, closely followed by Joe Root, induced a collapse from which England could not recover.

A dejected Eoin Morgan was left without answers to explain his side’s astonishing batting collapse on Wednesday. From 119 for two, England slumped to 127 all out in the > third and final Twenty20 against India here. “No, I can't explain it. We haven't produced a batting performance as bad as that in two or two-and-a-half years,” Morgan said.

The captain explained that the ODI series loss was harder to accept than the more recent setback. “In the ODIs, there was only 15-20 runs between winning and losing the series. That hurts us more than losing this Twenty20 series. [On Wednesday], we under-performed. We weren't good enough,” he said.

Speaking about what it takes to successfully chase a stiff 203-run target, Morgan stated that his batting colleagues needed to employ a smarter game-plan. “It's a difficult balance between hitting out and building a knock. You want to rotate the strike and get yourself down to the other end. You get your eye in and watch the ball from both

ends. It is disappointing that we didn't do that. It wasn't a bad piece of bowling (from India). Our batsmen are encouraged to take their options, but a bit more smarter (sic) cricket was needed to try and regain the momentum in our chase.”
