The chief national selector says both Vihari and Shaw deserved a India call-up.

As Hanuma Vihari and Prithvi Shaw were called up for the India's squad for the remaining two Tests against England on Wednesday, India's chief national selector, M.S.K. Prasad, says that both the players deserved the chance.

"They have come up with a comprehensive performance. So, they deserve it for being consistent," Prasad told Sportstar late on Wednesday.

While Vihari and Shaw have proven their worth, Karnataka's Mayank Agarwal has been another bright spot in the country's domestic circuit.

Despite being a top performer in India A's recent tour to UK, Agarwal was ignored for selection in the senior side. But Prasad insisted that the door may open soon for the Karnataka batsman. "Mayank, Prithvi and Hanuma are performing regularly. Sooner or later everybody will get into the side because all of them have been very consistent," Prasad said.

Vihari, the batsman from Andhra Pradesh is the second cricketer from the state, after Prasad to break into the Test squad. The chief selector is happy to see the seasoned cricketer making his mark. "It is a wonderful thing. He deserves the opportunity. His performance speaks for itself," Prasad said.

It has been learnt that the national selectors and the team management feel that in English conditions, it would be wise to try out another young batsman. That's the reason behind calling up Vihari and Shaw.

Shaw led India U-19 to the World Cup title in February, he also amassed 1418 runs in 14 first-class games. Vihari, a member of India's U-19 World Cup winning side in 2012, has scored 5142 runs in 63 first class fixtures.
