Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin could move from India Cements to Chemplast Sanmar ahead of the TNCA league this season. A reliable source in Chemplast revealed to Sportstar on Wednesday, “There is a 90 per cent chance of Ashwin switching over to us.”
It is learnt that Ashwin, busy with the ongoing IPL season, wants to come to Chennai at the conclusion of the Twenty20 competition to personally submit his resignation to India Cements. It is also believed that the Indian international wants to have a conversation with N. Srinivasan, who is the vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements, apart from being the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), before putting in his papers.
There have been rumours in the cricketing circles about Ashwin joining Chemplast, where he would be roped in as a high-ranking executive, apart from being the side’s star cricketer along with Indian Test opener Murali Vijay.
In fact, Ashwin had been a part of Chemplast’s first division team in the TNCA league, Jolly Rovers, before joining India Cements in the early years of IPL. An emerging cricketer then, Ashwin turned out for Chennai Super Kings where he made rapid strides.
A source in the higher echelons of India Cements’ first division side Vijay CC said to this newspaper, “We have been hearing these talks about Ashwin in the team and in the office for quite a while now. Ashwin has not come forward to deny them.”
There are also speculations that Dinesh Karthik and Abhinav Mukund, both former India cricketers, would be moving to Chemplast from India Cements. However, a reliable source in India Cements said categorically, “Both Dinesh and Abhinav are staying with us.”
The same source, though, was not willing to give any guarantees about Ashwin. Unless India Cements succeeds in forcing a last-minute change of mind, Ashwin seems set to move.
