The BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Thursday welcomed the unopposed election of former president Shashank Manohar as the first independent chairman of the International Cricket Council.

Congratulating Manohar on his new assignment, Thakur said: “Mr Shashank Manohar’s unanimous, unopposed election is a matter of pride for India. With his vast administrative experience he will provide leadership to the ICC to strengthen the position of cricket at the global level. The BCCI looks forward to working closely with the ICC for developing cricket.”

Manohar resigned from BCCI president’s post last Tuesday, a move that has also come under some criticism among a section in the richest cricket board in the world.
