The first One-Day match between New Zealand A and India A scheduled at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy international stadium on Friday was called off.
Umpires Rohan Pandit and Sadashiv Iyer along with match referee Prakash Bhatt found the outfield wet while inspecting it an hour before lunch.
On Thursday, curator Naga Mallaiah was confident of play starting on time the following morning, provided there was no rain. Around midnight, there was a heavy downpour. Despite resplendent sunshine on Friday, most of the region near the ropes was still soggy. The square and surrounding areas being properly protected, remained unaffected.
Officials said efforts were on to have the game on Saturday. With the visiting team keen to play the full 50 overs, there was also the possibility of having a day-night game, they added.
