The Indian cricket team will leave for Australia from Mumbai on January 5.
The team under M. S. Dhoni is scheduled to play five ODIs and three T20Is, between January 12 and 31. The series is seen as a precursor to the 2016 World T20, slated to be played in India in March-April.
The limited overs fixtures is also expected to see the return of likes of Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Shami, and Ashish Nehra to the national side.
The last time India toured Australia, they had an unsuccessful limited overs campaign in an ODI tri-series involving Australia and England in early 2015 before they reached the semifinals of the World Cup.
The Indian team is expected to attend the BCCI annual awards before departing to Australia.
