Javagal Srinath has hailed the appointment of Anil Kumble as head coach of the Indian cricket team. “They have made the right choice,” he said, “He will bring that never-say-die attitude, apart from his technical inputs and the confidence he instils in youngsters.”

Srinath, who enjoyed a fruitful career alongside Kumble both for Karnataka and India, felt Kumble's success across formats was evidence of his adaptability. “He has that adaptability, that flexibility in his mind. He was a champion bowler in Test cricket, and in ODIs he was very economical. And he's not far away from this generation. That's probably one of the reasons why this post went to him,” he said.

The 46-year-old felt Kumble's equanimity would hold the team in good stead. “Learning is constant through wins and losses but to realize that is important,” he said. “You need a stable man in these situations. That's one of his strengths. Irrespective of what the result is, maintaining your composure is extremely important. And that's something he brings.”

Srinath added: “His tenacity is a great strength. Even if you're a raw talent, Anil is somebody who will be able to extract the best of that talent.”
