The Indian under-19 team defeated Nepal by six wickets in the ACC Asia Cup here in Colombo on Friday.

Electing to bat, Nepal rode on No. 8 Rohit Kumar Paudel’s 68 (93b, 7x4, 2x6) to post a modest 172 for nine in its 50 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee chipped in with 34.

For India, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar took five for 27, including the top-4 Nepal batsmen.

In reply, India reached the target in just 33.3 overs. Opener Himanshu Rana (51, 61b, 5x4) and Shubham Gill (57, 63b, 4x4, 2x6) laid the foundation with an 86-run stand for the second wicket. Priyam Garg (36 not out, 42b, 1x4, 2x6) and Salman Khan (19 not out, 25b, 3x4) saw India through.

The scores: Nepal under-19 172 for nine in 50 overs (Dipendra Singh Airee 34, Rohit Kumar Paudel 68, Rahul Chahar five for 27) lost to India under-19 174 for four in 33.3 overs (Himanshu Rana 51, Shubham Gill 57, Priyam Garg 36 not out, Pawan Sarraf three for 43).
