"I think you've been really supportive. Thanks a lot," says Washington Sundar to his interviewer and Rising Pune Supergiant skipper Steve Smith after picking up a three-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians in the first Qualifier of this year's Indian Premier League.

"You're welcome mate," says Smith, smiling. He says he's proud of what Washington has done so far in the IPL. He's been out to the 17-year-old in the nets.

Washington, who bowled most of his overs in the Powerplay, was the most economical among the RPS bowlers. And, Smith rates him well.

This camaraderie will continue when, four months later, Washington, featuring in Board President's XI and Smith as captain of Australia, face off in a warm-up fixture on September 12, ahead of the India-Australia limited overs series, which starts on September 17.

"I've played a lot against him. We've had lot of fun in the nets. Looking forward to bowl to him in a match," Washington says about bowling to Smith. "He's one of the best in the world right now. And, it's a great opportunity for me to bowl to him."

In the two games he played against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he bowled 22 balls to David Warner and gave away 22 runs. Another opportunity to bowl at the fearsome Aussie opener, the 17-year-old says will be fun.

The wicket of Chepauk, Washington knows very well, especially after playing the Tamil Nadu Premier League recently. "I think I should know what to do before going into the game," he says.

About facing the Australian pacers, the leading run-scorer of TNPL isn't worried too much. "I just want to enjoy that day and not think too much about it."
