New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson said he did not hear any of the words aimed against him by Australia's Josh Hazlewood on day four of the second Test following Kane Williamson's lbw let-off.
Hazlewood pleaded guilty to dissent and was fined 15 per cent of his match fee after being heard >swearing by the stump microphone having seen a review of an lbw appeal against Williamson confirmed not out by third umpire Richard Illingworth.
Illingworth ruled Hazlewood's delivery had struck Williamson's bat before hitting his pad, with the seamer and captain Steve Smith then confronting umpire Ranmore Martinesz.
"What? It hit his foot ... who the f*** is third umpire?," Hazlewood was heard to have protested.
When the morning session came to a close Hazlewood directed his anger at Anderson, who was unaware of the right-armer's tirade against him.
"I didn't actually hear anything. I got told that he was saying something to me. I'm actually deaf in my left ear," Anderson said.
"He could have been on my wrong side. Whether he said something or not I'm not too concerned."
Australia are just 131 runs from victory and a 2-0 series win having ended the fourth day in Christchurch on 70-1 after Jackson Bird's 5-59 saw New Zealand bowled out for 335 in their second innings.
Admitting New Zealand have been out-bowled by the tourists, Anderson added: "They've bowled well this whole series to be fair.
"They've hit the right areas on our wickets and been able to do enough on wickets that potentially shouldn't be doing all that much. We're going to have to come up with some interesting fields and give it a real crack.
"We haven't got heaps of runs to play with but if we can deny them and hopefully a couple of things go our way, then we're [in with] a sniff if we can go bang-bang in the morning."
