Awards hat-trick for England batsman Root

Joe Root was presented with the awards at a dinner in Leeds on Monday, beating Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes to the Test honour and Jos Buttler and David Willey to the Limited Overs prize.

England's Joe Root finished the ICC World Twenty20 as England's highest run scorer with 249.

Joe Root has been named as England's Test Cricketer of the Year and Limited Overs Cricketer of the Year.

The England batsman has been recognised for his excellent performances across all three forms of the game and was also voted as the Men's Player of the Year by fans.

Root was presented with the awards at a dinner in Leeds on Monday, beating Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes to the Test honour and Jos Buttler and David Willey to the Limited Overs prize.

The Yorkshire right-hander hit two centuries as England regained the Ashes last year and also had a three-figure performance in a Test series win in South Africa.

Root posted four ODI centuries in the 12-month period since the 2015 awards and finished the ICC World Twenty20 as England's highest run scorer with 249.

The 25-year-old said: "I'm extremely proud. You can't win these personal awards without great people – and great team players – around you.

"I know my cricket can develop so much more. There are so many areas I have to keep working on and keep improving. I don't think you're ever happy as a batter: there are always more runs you can get and more tweaks you can make to improve.

"There's plenty on the horizon for me to work at."
