Stuart Broad has been added to England's one-day squad for the upcoming series with South Africa after Liam Plunkett's thigh injury. Plunkett himself was a replacement in the touring party after Steven Finn was ruled out with a side strain suffered during England's third-Test win over the Proteas which sealed the series.

However, Plunkett was unable to meet up with the tourists after picking up the thigh problem while with the England Lions.

His place will be taken by Broad - who took 6-17 in second innings of the third Test - and has not featured in the 50-over format since March 2015 at the World Cup. "Stuart Broad will replace Liam Plunkett in the five-match ODI series against South Africa starting early next month," an ECB statement read.

"Plunkett, who had been called into the squad earlier this week, has a thigh strain and will now remain with England Lions in UAE for the remainder of their series against Pakistan A. "Plunkett remains in the England T20 squad for the two-match series against South Africa provided he recovers from his current injury."

Bloemfontein hosts the first of five ODIs on February 3.
