Haseeb Hameed hopes talk of Alastair Cook stepping down as England captain does not cause the 32-year-old to consider his Test future.
Cook has been widely tipped to relinquish the leadership of England's Test side after a difficult tour in India, with Joe Root the favourite to replace him.
England was comprehensively beaten 4-0 towards the end of 2016, with the last two defeats coming by an innings despite scoring at least 400 batting first on both occasions.
Those performances have led to speculation Cook could hand over the captaincy to Root but Hameed hopes he continues to play for his country, having partnered him in the opening three matches in India.
"Obviously we don't know what the situation is with Cook," Hameed told Sky Sports News.
"But I'd like to think I'll still get the opportunity to open the batting with him.
"It's something I really enjoyed in the Test matches I played in, and hopefully I can do it at home in England as well, and continue learning from him.
"He was brilliant with me in India. He made it very easy for me to go out there and play my game - he was very relaxed in the middle, and that rubbed off.
"It was just a case of watching how he goes about his business which was great for me to see out in the middle, first hand."
Hameed's maiden tour with England ended prematurely due to a broken finger but he is recovering well after surgery and hopes to impress for Lancashire when the county season gets underway.
"The finger is getting there," he added. "It has been four and a half weeks since surgery, and they normally say it should take six weeks for a full recovery.
"I've started hitting some tennis balls, that went well, and hopefully I can build on that and be ready for Lancashire's pre-season tour in February."
England due not return to Test action until July when it hosts four matches against South Africa, before welcoming West Indies for three Tests.
