Australia's Josh Hazlewood appeals for an lbw against New Zealand's Kane Williamson

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after admitting to showing dissent towards an umpire during the second Test against New Zealand.

Hazlewood pleaded guilty to dissent following an exchange with umpire Ranmore Martinesz in which he was heard swearing after seeing an appeal for lbw against Kane Williamson confirmed not out by the Decision Review System on day four.

Captain Steve Smith called for the on-field decision to be reviewed, only for third umpire Richard Illingworth to rule the ball had hit Williamson's bat before striking his pad.

The offensive language used by Hazlewood was then picked up by the stump mic and the ICC has been quick to punish the 25-year-old for his actions.

An ICC statement read: "Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day's play in the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch on Tuesday.

"The player was found to have breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match".

"Following the day's play, Hazlewood admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Chris Broad of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing."
