Mike Hesson hailed "selfless" Kane Williamson's "exceptional" captaincy as the New Zealand captain picked up the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for a second successive year.
Williamson has established himself as one of the best batsmen in the world, sitting second in the Test rankings and ranked the third-best in Twenty20 internationals.
The prolific batsman averages almost 50 in the longest format, 45.90 in ODIs and an impressive 36.29 in T20s.
Williamson has led his country in all formats since taking over as Test skipper last year and has proved to be an inspirational captain.
Black Caps head coach Hesson was full of praise for the 26-year-old, who was named as New Zealand's outstanding player once again at an awards ceremony on Thursday.
"Since Christmas, I think his captaincy across all three formats has been exceptional." said Hesson.
"He reads the game particularly well, gets to know the players and what makes them tick. He certainly makes a real effort to get the best out of everybody.
"I think the thing that the team likes the most about Kane is that he's so selfless. I understand you [the media] might not get quotes from him talking about himself, but that's him.
"He doesn't do it for effect. He does it because that's what he cares about, he cares about the team and cares about winning games for his country - that's his priority.
"If he's able to achieve milestones along the way then so be it, but it's certainly not something that drives him - what drives him is trying to win games for New Zealand."
