Jason Holder upbeat ahead of strong Tri-Nation series

West Indies captain Jason Holder was in a buoyant mood when he faced the media ahead of his side's Tri Nation One-Day International series opener against South Africa on Friday.

The Windies skipper is expecting big things from his team as they look to build on their triumphant World Twenty20 campaign earlier this year to the longer form of the game.

Holder said the positive mood in the camp, alongside some impressive individual form in the Indian Premier League, left him optimistic of a good campaign, which includes Australia.

"It's a good squad, many of them were in the World T20 squad and are carrying good form in the IPL," Holder said.

"Carlos Brathwaite did really well, Marlon Samuels too…so I'm really looking forward to this series and I expect big things from [the squad].

"The mood is very good, everybody is up for the series.

"We've had a bit of a break so the boys are ready to go and ready to hit the ground running."

While Holder is excited to see if Brathwaite and Samuels can continue their strong form with the bat, he has not shirked his responsibility with the ball, admitting he needs to have a big impact if the Windies are to have a strong tournament.

"We've got our own plans, we all have our individual plans, but I've stressed with the guys that it is all about execution now," he said.

"We've got world class bowlers in this side…I've been doing reasonably well in one-day cricket."

The series begins on Friday when the Windies take on South Africa, and Holder said he was expecting a tough opening contest.

"They're an aggressive team, they have some quicker bowlers and a few spinners as well," he said.

"The pitch tends to be generally slow so we expect additional spinners, but we'll just see how the first day goes."
