Darren Lehmann has claimed none of his Australia players are safe from the axe for the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Australia are in danger of losing top spot in the ICC Test rankings after a 229-run hammering by Angelo Mathews' side consigned them to a series defeat.

The tourists' shortcomings against spin have been laid bare in the subcontinent yet again, mustering only 106 and 183 in their first and second innings respectively in Galle.

Australia also paid the price for a lack of runs in the opening match of the series in Pallekele and head coach Lehmann is mulling over changes as they attempt to salvage some pride when the third and final Test starts in Colombo on Saturday.

Asked if the axe could be set to fall, he said: "Well, anywhere from one to six [in the batting order], everyone in the squad will be considered.

"That's what happens when you don't have the results you would like."

"We will need to have a look at the wicket, sum it up and go from there. One of the pleasing things is we've managed to get 20 wickets in every game, but we just need to get more runs.

"All those things to weigh up, selection is going to be tough and tight for this one."

"You don't like dropping anyone, you feel for them when they don't play as well as they would like."

"That's the hardest thing as a coach and a selector, you have to make tough decisions sometimes."
