Paceman Joel Paris is surprised to be on the verge of an international debut in Australia's series against India.The uncapped left-armer was a shock selection in the squad for the first three matches of the five-game one-day international series.
Paris could be in line to feature in the series opener in Perth on Tuesday after just 13 List A matches. The 23-year-old said he was still coming to grips with being part of the national setup.
"It's been a tough couple of years. I haven't played a lot of cricket over the last couple of years," Paris told a news conference on Saturday.
"Obviously had the quad injury last year which kept me out for the majority of it and then it was earlier in the pre-season when I had a bit of relapse with it again so I wasn't really sure if I'd play any cricket this year and fortunately enough it's worked out pretty well so far.
"I'm really happy with how the season is panning out and what direction it's going."
Home advantage
Australia coach Darren Lehmann said Western Australian Paris has a chance to make his debut in Perth due to his familiarity with the wicket.
Paris said he expected a competitive series against India.
"It's always a great series. Two fantastic teams, it's always going to be very competitive. We're certainly really looking forward to the challenge," he said.
"The crowd is fantastic over here, it always is, so if I get the opportunity to play I'll be really looking forward to doing well and enjoying myself out there."
