Sri Lanka tries new blood for England tour

Sri Lanka named a 17-member squad Wednesday, including two rookie players, for the three Test matches in the upcoming England tour while retaining Angelo Mathews as captain.

Batsman Kaushal Silva, who was briefly hospitalised after being hit on the head while fielding in Kandy during a practice match on Sunday, was also included. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said he was not seriously injured and was fully fit to play after resting for two days.

The team leaves for England on May 4, SLC said. Sri Lanka is also due to play five One Day Internationals and one T20 match.

The Test squad: Angelo Mathews (capt), Dinesh Chandimal (vice-capt), Dhananjaya Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Dhammika Prasad, Dilruwan Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, Milinda Siriwardana, Niroshan Dickwella, Nuwan Pradeep, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga and Suranga Lakmal.
