IPL 2019: From Smith's fifty to Lamichhane's three-wicket haul

Published : Apr 21, 2019 00:18 IST

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer struck fifties to power Delhi to a comfortable five-wicket win over Punjab. Dhawan fell for a 41-ball 56 but Iyer, with his 49-ball 58, saw the team home.

Hardus Viljoen was the pick of the bowlers for Kings XI Punjab, returning figures of two for 39. He removed Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant but Punjab failed to restrict the host side from getting past the finish line.

Sandeep Lamichhane was the standout performer for Delhi with the ball. He took three for 40 and was ably supported by Kagiso Rabada and Axar Patel who grabbed two wickets each. The Nepal leg-spinner got rid of openers Chris Gayle and Lokesh Rahul before snapping up Sam Curran later in the innings.

Steve Smith spearheaded Rajasthan Royals' run chase with an unbeaten 48-ball 59 including five boundaries and a six. Smith's 70-run partnership with the impressive 17-year-old Riyan Parag (43, 29b) put the host side on course for a comfortable five-wicket win.

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar’s second successive three-wicket haul had put the Royals under pressure. Chahar removed openers Ajinkya Rahane and Sanjus Samson and also accounted for the prized wicket of Ben Stokes in the middle overs. However, he found little support from the other bowlers as Rajasthan romped home with ease.

Quinton de Kock struck his second fifty against the Royals as Mumbai posted what looked like a challenging total at the halfway stage. De Kock hammered a 47-ball 65 including six fours and two sixes but got a reprieve when he was on six. A mistimed shot off Shreyas Gopal was grassed by Jofra Archer, who got both hands to the ball but failed to hold on.
