Last season, Rajasthan Royals turned heads when it roped in Saurashtra pacer, Jaydev Unadkat, for a massive Rs 11.5 crore--the highest among Indian players.

He had a mixed outing for the Rajasthan franchise, taking 11 wickets in 15 games, making the franchise release him ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. But on Tuesday, the Rajasthan franchise bought him back for Rs 8.4 crore--the highest bid so far.

Royals’ owner, Manoj Badale, however, defended the decision, saying that the pacer is one of the ‘core members’ of the team.

“He is a core part of our team strategy. I disagree that he did not perform last year. He performed in some of the important games last year for us. We have a good look at him this season and we think know what he has to work on. He is a fantastic player,” Badale said.

The side also bagged Jharkhand pacer, Varun Aaron, and Badale admitted that it was done to give more options to the bowling department.

“We had to add pace to our team. One (thing) is a strong attack and the other is taking wickets upfront,” he said.

After the tournament last year, Undakat had admitted that he found it tough to cope with the huge price tag. This time, with another big deal, will it be tough for Unadkat to adjust.

Badale, however, was not willing to think too much about it and sounded confident of Unadkat’s chances in the tournament next year.
